The M8B was developed by McLaren for the 1969 Can-Am season. It was a high-winged wider-bodied evolution of the '68 championship-winning M8A, powered by an all-aluminum 7.0L Chevrolet big-block V8. Drivers Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme would trade 1-2 finishes the entire season for a clean sweep and another championship.
